Historic Music of Newport

Historic Music of Newport, was founded in 2022 by director Mark Stickney to preserve the rich musical heritage of Newport, RI. The ACA Artist Award is presented so the HMN can host 5 free concerts at Touro Park featuring community bands from around the state.

Timothy Michael Hetland

Timothy Michael Hetland is the recipient of the Fall 2022 Artist Award. Hetland is a Middletown artist who specializes in sculpture built from found objects. Through his studio, Skuteundfish Art Works, he creates sculptures from metal, wood, crystal and stone. He will use the $500 award to fund the creation of public sculpture which will be exhibited in Newport County.

Katie Moorhead is the 2022 Spring Recepient of the ACA Artist Award. Her new project called Casual & Connected. This collaboration will include an improvised live work of artist and musician in a public space.

The Newport String Project receives the ACA Fall 2021 Artist Award for a series of 4 free community pop-up performances to take place in local parks and green spaces in Spring 2022.

Taleen Batalian

Taleen Batalian received the Fall 2021 ACA Artist Award for Waves and Shadows which is a collaborative performance installation that explores the boundaries of form and presentation to be preformed at the Jamestown Arts Center in Spring 2022.

LeRoy White Soul & Conscience award is presented annually to a musician of any age or situation whose life and/or art contributes to and connects the community. LeRoy's family honors his legacy by offering an award of $4000 each year to be used in any manner, by a musician who embodies the spirit of LeRoy’s gift to Newport.

The LeRoy White Soul & Conscience Award 2023 was presented to Greg Ferreira. He is a multi-instrumentalist Lo-Fi Reggae Cumbia artist with a true passion for music.
