SUE LAMOND
2017 Dominique award recipient
Newport, RI
Sue Lamond has been the proprietor of Salvation Café since the time when it was a one room restaurant and the only place to eat on Broadway. Through Sue’s perseverance and active encouragement of the Broadway neighborhood, the block Salvation sits on is home to many bars and restaurants and Salvation has widened, extended and gone up. The Post and Beam Room has been a gathering place for the arts community, from the Alliance’s Arts Around the Fire to film showings, music and community events. Not only has she championed the arts community in Newport, but community in general. Salvation Café has been the favorite gathering place of several generations of young artists in Newport. It was the meeting place that laid the groundwork for many relationships, people that still live here in Newport and continue to affect the cultural fabric of the community.
Sue received a painting by Dave Wood.
