2021 UPDATE from Caleb Hilyard:

“Last year, I began my studies in music education at URI. In the spring, I was selected to participate in a masterclass at the UMASS Saxophone Festival with world renowned saxophonist Otis Murphy, which was unfortunately postponed due to COVID-19. I have played and sung in various university ensembles, including the concert band, wind ensemble, big band, concert choir, marching band, and vocal and instrumental chamber groups. I was selected to participate in the Student Recital portion of the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 8 Conference, streaming later this month. I will also be serving as Drum Major of the Ram Band this coming season. Outside of academics, I'm an active member of College Democrats, URI's NAfME chapter, and student government on campus. I’m still both proud and honored to be a recipient of the Tinney Family Arts Scholarship. It has helped make possible all thing I have done at URI. Best Regards” -Caleb

Throughout Caleb’s career as a student, he has been involved in many of the music groups at Portsmouth High School. He has also played the saxophone in state-wide music festivals and in community groups. Caleb plans on attending the University of Rhode Island where he will study music education.
